The Power of We

Conventional career wisdom tells us that success comes from having control and making things happen by ourselves - by being the mythical lone wolf. The problem with that myth? Lone wolves rarely survive, let alone thrive.

I’m sure you’re familiar with this outdated notion. But it does a disservice to us all - especially women.

Because this old idea overlooks the immense value of cooperation, collaboration, and reciprocity in realizing our ambitions.

Working with others is not a weakness, but a strength. It allows us to build networks, develop social capital, and create opportunities to be our authentic selves. As women, we’ve been given an invisible advantage in this regard because we are expected to work well with others.

We can still strive for success without sacrificing our boundaries or being a doormat. The most successful women are those who are respected, liked and appreciated by their colleagues and peers - because they harness the power of working with others and leveraging differences as strengths.

Some may consider that successful men - the Jeff Bezos’ and Elon Musk’s of the world - built their empires alone; but the truth is that they couldn't have done it without the support of others. No one can genuinely achieve success alone.

As human beings, much like wolves, we are fundamentally social creatures and collaboration is essential to our success.

So let’s break free from the outdated lone wolf myth and embrace the power of working together. By doing so we can achieve greatness, for ourselves and our world around us.
